Ubisoft releases five screenshots of Rainbow Six Vegas PS3, which is due to be released in a few days. More than six months after the Xbox 360 version we hope the game will not suffer from a bad port job like Splinter Cell Double Agent...

2006-03-12 05:52:11 Rainbow Six Details - Taken off Red Storm's hands.

http://gamereports.com/news/1705#comments

EGM has the lowdown on the newly announced Rainbow Six Vegas. The game has been in development for nearly 2 years now, and after the poor quality of Lockdown, development was taken out of Red Storm's hands and given to Ubisoft Montreal. On to the details.

In the game you will play as one character, not Ding but he does mane a cameo. You will have 2 or 3 teammates who will have unique personalities, and the game will be presented using the "Half-Life" (their words) style of storytelling (using only the first-person perspective and no cutscenes). The game will also feature destructible environments, and players will have to perform tasks such as rappelling down the sides of buildings and choppers. There will be no pre-mission breifing this time around, players will issue commands "on-the-fly." The game will be presented in a much more cinematic fashion, your teammates will engage in conversations and even argue. The game is going to use a Ubisoft proprietary engine, and the game will feature a Halo-style health recovery system, that is, if you rest after a hit you wil recover health. Sounds like the R6 series is getting the makeover it so sorely deserves.

Thank god.

There will still be one hit kills...except if you get shot in the toe you can recover that health you lost...

The Ubi dev at B3D said that the above was not completely accurate (he out right laughed at it) but could not elaborate on the specifics due to NDA.

Hmm..not entirely sure about this one..certainly doesn't sound like the R6 of old..but maybe it'll be good, who knows, too early to tell. We can tell it's pretty tho..heh

Red Storms been busy anyway--they did the MP portion of GRAW didn't they? Ubi seems to have a lot of faith in all of their developers..they don't seem to have issues with shifting responsibilities around when it comes to major franchises..I think that's a good thing, and I think I like the way they handle their multi platform developement too..

Tho I wish they would stop using Starforce on PC.

Ohh come on not a "Halo-style" Healthbar PLEASE!!! i hope they don't make this game another Lockdown cause i would hate it if these series would be come a "halo with realistic guns" type of game....

There's no health "bar" in Halo(2). They're talking about using the same system that Halo 2 and Call of Duty 2 use. That will afford the devs the ability to throw more enemies at you over the span of one mission, whereas before, you would take a couple bullets and die, and start over. Doesn't sound like the end of the world to me...

well it does, first of all u; know what i meant with the halo type health bar seconly i don't want this becoming a "omg i'm crap but i'll just wait till my health is back up" game

this is supposed be a realistic type of game...

How, exactly, are Halo 2 and Call of Duty 2 "omg i'm crap but i'll just wait till my health is back up" games?

It seems to me that they're trying to separate all of their franchises so that the difference between Ghost Recon and Rainbow Six isn't purely "oh we're indoors!" and "hey, we're outdoors!".

I think that type of health bar is good, and works well in halo 2 and call of Duty2 because they are so fast paced and when in the middle of a battle, it's a challenge in its self to find cover for you health to recover.

I'm not too happy with the GRAW health system because if you are on red health and then cross a checkpoint you are stuck on red every time you reload the checkpoint. This is why bungie droped the old health bar from halo1.

IMO it would have been better if your team mates could heal you like you can heal them. This would make you try hard to keep them alive. Being able to choose a medic instead of a marksman, gunner etc, would have been cool.

well since when you take damage; u just take a breather behind a box or so and your back to full again. I seriosly doubt that when i shoot u in the leg and u rest a couple of seconds you'll be back to normal again :D

it's just this game shouldn't use that kinda health system IMO; because it wouldn't be doing the series any good IMO

Yeah I agree. For this type of game they need a damage system that affects your movement and accuracy depending on where you are shot. eg if you are shot in the arm you might drop your gun and your aim is affected.

As for regeneration of health, you should equip medi's, that will stop blood loss but not replenish your actual health. May sound a bit realistic and hard to put into a game, but I bet MGS4 will do something like it.

After the MGS3 "Cure Menu" nonsense I would hope it offers something better.

It's not as if they hadn't thought of that. The question is, would that make for a good game, or a frustrating one? Realism is great, but not if it is punishing to the player.

Yes, I want some variety.

In a realistic game make my aim go bad, make me slower, etc... And do NOT allow me to replenish health!

And what to do between levels? Give it "time". i.e. If each mission had 2 or 4 months between them you could heal up--heck, have it if you took a nasty shot you were not 100%.

Of course you would need to have a 4 or 5 difficulty settings, maybe even a "cheat" options... like "You get 3 complete heals in between missions".

So while a Halo-health is GREAT in Halo and such, and I don't mind action games with cheesy healing (GO BF!! Woot!) ina R6 game, which has always been about realism, I want to see more realism. Just build the gameplay around it!

Basically the health meter MUST be a primary game design feature and then you have to design levels and pacing around it. You cannot just build a game and say "Ok, what works? for this game".

I think we all want quality systems and variety where the gameplay and mechanics all come together well. If R6 is gonna be realistic, which is its heritage and what fans want, they should move in that direction.
