Micromania Game Show again with some Gran Turismo HD footage. Even if the game is just a pumped-up version of GT4, it looks gorgeous.

You think Forza is any better? You can bash up cars all you like and they are still driveable... Neither game is realistic in that respect, but at least the GT series looks a whole lot better, and plays better too. How embarrassing for Microsoft when they spent years working on Forza 2, yet Polyphony Digital come along and after simply jacking up the resolution and adding a few tweaks here and there, already the game is looking leagues better.

You should also understand that this game is only 15% complete. Damage will be in, abd then Frotha will look even more cack in comparison.

Well, first of all, this is a demo. I'm not sure if the devs confirmed GT HD will have cars that can break down or was it about GT5. And because this is basically just a graphical upgrade to GT4, I'm not that sure how much are they interested in investing in the game. This is more like a test for the developers about things they want to perhaps do with the "real" sequel, Gran Turismo 5. So this is basically GT 4.5, and it has (roughly) half of the improvements that will eventually be in GT5. The things they are doing now are basically just things that are to do with graphics (1080p and getting to know the PS3 hardware) and about the online side of the game. The bigger gameplay improvements will quite likely be saved for GT5, so that gamers will actually have a reason to buy it and not just settle to GT HD. And this is basically to make sure that GT5 will be as perfect as possible. They can listen gamers about the problems that the online side might have and (try to) remove the problems, and other things like that.

But really, despite the bad AI and the fact that the cars don't suffer any damage, Gran Turismos have always had a near perfect gameplay. If you drive like you "should", then the handling of cars is pretty much perfect (especially if you have those Logitech's "Made for Gran Turismo" wheel controllers). If you just goof around and don't even try to stay on the track (or off the tracks edges), then yeah, it's not a game for you.

I am a bit dissapointed in Sony for giving a thumbs up for this game. This shouldn't be the first GT game for the PS3.
I would have prefered it if the first showing of GT on PS3 was GT5. That would have made the GT release more exciting.

Although I love GT games, I won't be getting this.

TOCA Race Driver series has been consistently better than Gran Turismo, more realistic, real damage, just not very pretty, i grew bored of GT after 3 came out, they are all the same, its stale, they need to add something new, "damage" is gonna be a micro-transaction extra on ps3, which is a joke.

They never said it would be a microtransaction, they said it would be an update, they never said you would pay for it. Though it wouldn't susrpise me.

Yep, car models are georgous, enviroments not so, and obviously the lack of many features doesn't do the game any good either.
Also, the car handling looks absolutely dreadfull, might take getting used to a but, but it doesn't look good at all...

That said, these series seem to be immensly popular, so it must be doing something right...

Like Azu said, this isn't meant to be a proper installment in the series. It's more like the Prologue or Concept titles. GT5 will almost certainly release after Forza, so that PD can one-up every aspect of that game... GTHD is just to tide GT gearheads until they can deliver the proper sequel.

I hope you're right, but I doubt GT5 is going to change much gameplay wise, I don't think it will be as refined as Forza in a lot of aspects, it's just not that type of game...

Now people bash GT's driving system? Wow, I think the hell just froze.

New assets look stunning, there's no discussion bout that. The backgrounds look as realistic as they can get, the close sorroundings - don't, but that's because they are made out of GT4 assets.

It will do a great job as a GT5 demo, very early GT5 demo.

"Bash GT's driving system"

Oh, what did I do know, did I offend your little baby?
Come on guys, the car models look great, enviroments are so-so, car handling looks bad, get over it.
Game might be fun to play, but don't deny the obvious flaws this game has.

But I guess any kind of criticism towards a ps3 game is now called bashing eh..?

You say car handling "looks bad"... have you ever played a GT game?

The game is in its fifth iteration. A bit late to level criticism against the series' driving system. It's practically unimpeachable at this point.

Yes, I have, and that's probably why the driving in those vids bother me, because the car handling looks just as awkward as the previous instalments.

Oh, and because the series are immensly popular and have sold many, many PS consoles, means it has no flaws..?

I'm sure it's a great game, yet again, it has it's flaws like most games do, regardless which console they're on...

What has popularity to do with anything? Or selling systems? You insist you're no Xbox fanboy, but...

I was referring to series' critical acclaim.

http://www.gamespot.com/ps2/driving/granturismo4/review.html

"The best driving model on the PS2..."

"Not many game series can be referred to as genre-defining, but in the world of console racing games, Gran Turismo fits the bill."

"...the driving model in GT4 is exceptionally executed..."

So you believe everything Gamespot says then eh? ;)

I don't care what Gamespot says honostly, I go by my own experiences, they are much more accurate to what I think of the game, believe it or not.

But, maybe it's just a matter of preference, who knows, I find the car handling in the GT series crap, maybe the rest of the world thinks otherwise, then so be it.

Oh, and I'm an undercover Xbox fanboy remember... ;)

Did I say that?! No, I used their review to bolster my opinion of the game. And there are plenty of other reviews of GT4 that praise the game's driving model... I simply can't be bother to list them all. Try Metacritic.

Geez, I wasn't even arguing that...

Yes, it's all down to opinion, but yours would be in the minority.

Not so undercover anymore...

GT4 was the best racing game of current gen when using Logitech Driving Force Pro wheel.

GT5 will probably be king again when it supports the Logitech G25 wheel with stick shift and clutch.

Anyone complaining about GT's driving model better set their tires to N2 and turn of the freaking aids and buy a Driving Force Pro.

wow ... what a blind and pathetic attempt to try and justify this game

forza looks soo much better than this, and i am not been biased, but forza DOES look better
and your saying you want this game even though poly have only done a few tweaks here and there ... WOOT! sounds like fifa cant wait ....................... 15% ready .. we will see when sony force it for launch.

Who remembers the ORIGINAL concept shots of Gran Turismo 3?

http://www.gamepro.com/screen_viewer.cfm?globalId=...

Then how it turned out?

Gran Turismo HD is EXACTLY what is says... a HD version of Gran Turismo as we know it and thats what the game is about....... 'Premium' mode is just a bonus thrown in with a very early look into the new car models.

Regardless of how it looks, it will play as the same Gran Turismo we have all come to enjoy and love and which made it the most popular racing game ever made.

Real DRIVING simulator its called, not real crashing/looking simulator.......... thats hopefully GT5 ;-)
